Congrats!!!

Mrs. Schwartz would like to congratulate all the Spartan Chorus members for a fantastic spring concert. You were so amazing. She is so proud of you!!!!!

3rd Grade Recorder Assignments: McCabe/Tenaglia: Pg 6 # 9 & 10, you must write the letters in Lynch: Pg 6-7 # 11-14 Smith: Pg 5 #4-8 Selgrade: Pg 5-6 # 4-10, you must write the letters in 9 & 10 Laudeman: Pg 5 # 4-8 6th Grade Artist Research Assignment Objective: To find specific information about an approved singer/group and present the findings to the class. Worth 20 points for 1 page report (typed or handwritten) and 5 points for presentation (2 pts for info., 1pt for clarity, 1 pt for eye contact, 1 pt for volume). Students are expected to use complete sentences and proper grammar and spelling! Requested information: 1. Birthday (death-date if it applies) 2. How did person/group get into music? 3. Hit songs (may include up to 5 songs) 4. Awards (Grammy, nominations, or no awards at this time) 5. Entertainment (acting, movies, T.V. show interviews, etc.) 6. Style of music 7. Personal information/interesting information 8. Why do you like this person/group? This assignment will also include a graphic designed CD cover to be completed with Mrs. Zink. Due date: 2nd week of March (Kessler)

Holiday Happenings

It is that wonderful time of the year when the music department prepares for our annual holiday concerts. Please note the following dates in your calendar. Mrs. Schwartz and Mr. Lennox would like to invite you to attend our annual holiday concerts. The Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade concert will be held on Monday, December 17th at 9:30 AM. The Third, Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Grade concert with be held on Tuesday, December 18th at 9:30 AM. Both concerts will be held in the high school auditorium. Students may wear a minimum of dress-code clothing, but are permitted to wear dress-up clothes. The Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Grade band and chorus students will be performing their show on Thursday, December 20th. They will perform at 7 PM in the high school auditorium. Mrs. Schwartz and Mr. Lennox will send additional information home with band and chorus students in the coming weeks. As always, thank you for supporting the North Schuylkill Music Department!

Welcome back!

If you are a 4th, 5th, or 6th grade student, please see Mrs. Schwartz for a chorus permission slip if you are interested. The chorus is a fantastic place to encourage teamwork, establish friendships, sing, move, and express yourself. When you turn in your permission slip, make sure you include a working email address. I would like to email monthly newsletters and other important information directly to your parents (this will also help us to be 'green' in the music department!). All K-6 music classes will be given seats and review the music room rules, fire drill procedures, and other school policies during the first music class. Fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students will also go over information regarding band and chorus during the first day of music class. Here's to a great year!

Spring Information

Kindergarten and sixth grades will soon begin working on their graduation music. Kindergarten will prepare with Mrs. Schwartz and sixth grade will rehearse with Mr. Shoener. Kindergarten graduation will be held on May 22nd, 6PM in the HS auditorium. Sixth grade graduation will be held on May 24th, 6PM in the HS auditorium.

Chorus and band will also be performing soon. Please mark the following dates on your calendar:

May 16th: Red & Blue bands will be rehearsing in the HS auditorium. Times will be announced by Mr. Shoener.

May 17th: Spartan Chorus will rehearse all day in the HS auditorium. Students may bring a lunch or sign up for a bag lunch provided by the NSE cafe.

May 17th: Band & Chorus concert for the parents in the HS auditorium, 7PM

May 18th: Band & Chorus concert for NSE students in the HS auditorium, 9:30AM

Chorus Auditions & Speaking Parts

Chorus auditions will be held from October 14th-21st. Please arrive at your selected time. No make-up times will be given unless you were absent. Soloists will be announced the week of October 24th. If you do not receive a solo, you will have the first shot at a speaking part. All music must be learned and memorized. I will choose 2 of the solos for you to sing during your audition. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Schwartz.
