Congrats

Happy Holidays

All students in grades K-6 will be preparing their songs for the Holiday concerts. They will be memorizing lyrics and performing the songs with motions. The concert dates are as follows:

K-2, December 13th in the HS Auditorium, 9:30am
3-6, December 14th in the HS Auditorium, 9:30am

October

All primary classes will be practicing how to identify, draw, and perform quarter rests, quarter notes, and eighth notes.

All upper grades will have vocab tests to complete Unit 1.

All grades will be singing and performing Halloween music.

September

In the month of September, all Kindergarten and First Grade students will be reviewing and learning rhythms. They will be playing on classroom percussion instruments in most music classes.

Second through Fourth grade will be working on music vocabulary words, singing, and playing on classroom percussion instruments.

The upper grades are beginning meter math: the relationship between music and math. They will also be working on building their music vocabulary. There will eventually be an announced quiz in class.

Happy First Week of School

All classes will receive their seating assignments and review the rules in the music room. Students will also receive an overview of lessons to be covered for the school year. Mrs. Kline will go over band and chorus details with eligible 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. Finally, each grade level will also begin the first lesson of the year as follows:

Kindergarten: Put Your Finger in the Air, Pg 14-15, CD 1-8.
Goals: body parts, personal space, moving to the steady beat, begin rhythm recognition, quarter notes and eighth notes, singing.

1st Grade: Ev’rybody Says, Pg 4-5, CD 1-1/3.

Goals: beat/no beat. S. will sing and keep the beat on their laps. S. will also create new ways to keep the beat. Complete vocal LSAs (if time).

2nd Grade: Zudio, Pg 4-5, CD 1-1

Goals: S will keep the beat, discuss the style of music, and perform the motions of the song. S. will identify the instruments using listening skills. Complete vocal LSAs.

3rd Grade: We’ve Got Lots in Common, Pg 4-5, CD 1-1

Goals: S. will keep a steady beat, sing, discuss Charlotte’s Web; vocabulary words: chorus and verse, complete vocal LSAs.

4th Grade: Band and Chorus hand-outs with Mrs. Kline. Instrument demonstration.

5th Grade: Band and Chorus hand-outs with Mrs. Kline. Adelita, Pg 6-7, CD 1-4/6

Goals: S will keep a steady beat, sing, discuss meaning of song, meter in 2; vocabulary: melody/harmony

6th Grade: We Are the World, Pg 4-5, CD 1-1/3

Goals: S. will sing, discuss meaning, composers, and recording singers
